Electronic Arab Lost Tapes
Cali Kula and Ogra
Electronic Arab Lost Tapes is rooted in archival research. Cali Kula has examined radio and television recordings from Egypt and Lebanon and other countries from Arab world uncovering long-lost interviews with some of the Arab worlds most celebrated artists. These spoken archives, once left in silence, are carefully extracted, sampled, and reimagined within electronic frameworks. By weaving memory into rhythm, the project transforms echoes of the past into living, resonant textures. The project has been enriched by the collaboration of Tunisian artist Haythem Achour, aka Ogra, who brings his own distinctive touch. Since 2024, Cali Kula and Ogra have not only developed Electronic Arab Lost Tapes together but also launched Techno Habibi—a live project that fuses hypnotic techno with stambali rhythms and traditional chants from Northwestern Tunisia, creating a bridge between ritual, heritage, and electronic innovation. Electronic Arab Lost Tapes is both homage and reinvention: honoring the voices and cultural memory of the Arab world. By blending archives with innovation, past with present, Cali Kula and Ogra invite listeners into a soundscape where history is not preserved in silence, but reshaped into something alive, meaningful, and contemporary.
